Notes on Biosafety Levels - Biosafety and self-contained ventilated rack systems are becoming more common and important throughout the Animal Laboratory Research industry. The ability to contain the environment for research models is becoming vital, especially when addressing important issues such as protecting against Biological threats like pandemics and sadly potential terror attacks.
To this end the Center for Disease Control & Prevention specifies Four biosafety levels (BSLs), which consist of combinations of laboratory practices and techniques, safety equipment, and laboratory facilities. Each combination is specifically appropriate for the operations performed, the documented or suspected routes of transmission of the infectious agents, and the laboratory function or activity.
